Meet Elena
In the fall of 2022, Elena was an active 5th grader exploring interests in reading, cooking, theater, and art. It was around that time that she began feeling a sudden and mysterious pain in her right leg. While doctors initially attributed Elena’s discomfort to growing pains, she eventually developed a severe limp and was diagnosed with a rare pediatric bone cancer known as Ewing sarcoma.
"We are so thankful for our proximity to UCSF with access to the best oncology care and wraparound support that is helping Elena heal and supporting her emotionally as well as physically," shares her mom, Liz. "It's a great comfort to know we have some of the best pediatric oncologists and surgeons working to get her better. The support and guidance have all been stellar."
