At just 3-years-old, Ashley was diagnosed with very high-risk leukemia. Mom, Jane, donated her bone marrow, but Ashley still faced multiple, life-threatening complications after the transplant, including a brain injury that left her severely brain damaged. Now 11, Ashley lives with permanent disabilities, but she’s a fighter with no intention of giving up.
Jane says that through it all, the doctors and staff at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals were supportive and empathetic, every step of the way. “They were always there to lend an ear,” she says. “We are so thankful.”
