Skylar first came to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals for two standard knee surgeries. A few months after her recovery, she was in a dirt bike crash and developed complex regional pain syndrome – excess and prolonged pain and inflammation following an injury – in her leg, arm, and back. Since then, Skylar has also been diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a chronic condition that can cause her to experience dizziness, an elevated heart rate, and palpitations when sitting or standing up.

UCSF means a lot to Skylar. "Having the amazing doctors and care team have helped me get my life back," she shares. "Everyone at the hospital is so nice and always helps me keep my motivation up. I always feel so comfortable with everyone I meet at the hospital. I am now able to do so many of the activities I loved that I wasn't able to do for a while."
