Jesse: Courage and Compassion
How One Leukemia Patient is Giving Back
We are thrilled to award Jesse Coronado the 2022 Colin Powell Medal of Courage for his incredible courage and compassion, which continue to be a true source of inspiration.
Just before his 15th birthday, Jesse was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer. Over the next six years, he underwent multiple rounds of treatment and three bone marrow transplants - two from his younger brother and then one from his mother.
Thanks to his excellent care team and positive support from friends and family, Jesse was able to overcome this hardship, exuding bravery and hope through even his darkest times. Now 21 years old, Jesse dreams of giving back to the hospital to help other young patients battling their own medical journeys.
